A Couple of Notes on My Cold Email Template
Not specialized: If you’re a first year or did not select your specific programs (e.g. you’re in life sciences, but don’t know if you want to do neuroscience or specialize, etc.)…
Instead of writing: “I am a first-year life science student…”
Write: “I am a first-year life science student planning to pursue”
You still want to tailor yourself towards the company. E.g. if it’s a psychology-orientated work area, maybe try avoid saying that you’re in plant biology
The shorter, the better: Don’t make the email super long, this person is busy (my template is already pretty long!)
Emails at 3am: Email during a business day (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm)
Follow up within 1-2 weeks
Basic professionalism: Use your student email if possible, it makes you look more professional

This is what I used to cold email ALL the professors at my university. Make sure to tweak it so that your voice shines through. That’s worth more than a generic email template.
Cold Emailing Tracker
Planning to bulk cold email? I made custom tracker for you that you can use here.

How to use it:
1) Put the information of the person you just emailed
2) Put the day when you want to follow up in the “Date to follow up” column
3) That’s it, it’s just a tracker
Feel free to contact me if you’re having trouble customizing it. I just used a YouTube video to make this, so you can do that too if you want.

Rambling, Sneak Peaks, & Future Plans
Hopefully, if I’m able to manage my life this summer, I’ll try to expand more on mentoring + collaborating with people! It would be nice to host virtual meetings and ramp up my social media game. Maybe I’ll see if I can monetize, but honestly, I’m afraid of doing taxes.
You’re always free to message me on my Instagram for any advice. I love talking with people.
Also, I’m still a bit nervous about sharing my identity to people outside my university, but my greed to be influential may corrupt my hesitancy to be on camera.
That’s it for this week.
I have a group chat now that I use to ramble + share less “relevant” opportunities. You must be following my Instagram to join it.
